Addressing Literacy...

The Greater Hartford Chapter installed a Little Free Library in May 2016 in partnership with Shiloh Baptist Church in Hartford, Connecticut and it has resonated with the area residents beyond expectations!

The Church is working in conjunction with the Chapter to store the book overflow and refill the Little Free Library as needed.  Not only have our Chapter members generously donated to the Library, but we have received very generous donations from the community.

Community donations have ranged from approximately 100 books by a renowned African American opera singer, Jolie Rocke Brown to over 600 books by an administrator at Saint Brigid School and over 400 books by an anonymous donor.  Chapter members continue to collect books at age group activities.

The physical labor involved in the installation of The Little Free Library was done by Jack and Jill Fathers  with close supervision by Jack and Jill children as young as age three.  Father Darrell Hill shares that “the Father’s Auxiliary’s installation of the Little Free Library is a wonderful way to support the Mothers of the Greater Hartford Chapter of Jack and Jill in their efforts to expand opportunities to read for pleasure throughout our community.”
